More storms

Last night was a another night of big storms. Just south of me, many homes were damaged or destroyed overnight due to either tornados or straight-line winds. Fortunately, no damage was done to my property; but lots of wind and lightning.

I am really tired feeling this morning, due to repeatedly being woke up by the storms. Hopefully, I can get a good night's rest tonight.

Saturday at the Cherry Blossom Festival

The day started with pink pancakes...although I did not make it to them. Way too early.

But I did go down to watch the bed races. Some were really fast. Others were more for the looks. You can click on the photos to enlarge most of them.

After taking the races, I decided to go back down the park to see what was happening there. The crowd was much bigger than last night. Lots of families with kids enjoying the amusement park rides, food, and several dog shows.

Elvis at the Cherry Blossom Festival

Elvis made an appearance at the 2007 Cherry Blossom Festival and I managed to snap a few photos of him.

You should be able to click on each of them to see it a bit bigger.

Neighbors

I am not really quite sure what makes some people decide to remove all of the trees from their property. Sure, it does eliminate the chore of raking leaves in the fall; but the benefits of shade and wildlife would out weigh the hassle...or so it would seem to me.

My next door neighbor must not feel the same as I do. She has hired a group to come in and remove most all of the trees from their yard. As I type this, the chainsaws are whining and the limbs are coming down.

For some of the bigger pecan trees that are near the buildings, she has hired a crane that will support the branches as the are cut out...one by one...out of the top of the tree.

Given our warm climate here, I wouldn't lose my trees for anything. Sure, they can be a bother. And once in a blue moon, a big limb or even a tree might come down....but still worth it to me.

To be, or not to be....Unitary in the question.

The local school board has been under the watchful eye of the feds for the past forty years or so due to a ruling concerning desegregation of black and white students. The school board is now pushing their freedom....to be granted a unitary status.

Yesterday, the judge heard a lot of testimony and public comments about it. The result....nothing for now. Maybe in a month or two.

I know....what a surprise! A slow decision being made in Macon.
