fertilizing the trees

I spent the last hour outside broadcasting a fertilizer mixture onto the yard in hopes of getting some pecans this fall. I have about a dozen pecan trees on my property, and had a really good crop 3 years ago. But the last several have been really poor to almost none. I know that pecans can run in cycles, and I am hoping that this year will be a good one for the nuts.
