River Clean Up

I spent the day today with a dozen or so friends, gently paddling down the Ocmulgee River, slowly filling our boats with all manner of trash. We usually do one or two clean ups on the river each year. We got out lots of cans, a few pieces of glass, a few toys, a barrel, a grill, and other odds and ends. I do have to admit that the river was cleaner this year than in the past....but it still has a long way to go to be "pristine".

One funny thing that happened: We put in the river and this dog jumped in the river and started following us. We tried to get it to go back to the starting point, but she would not. Eventually, she followed us so far down, that there was no way that she possibly could swim against the current back to the put-in location. So we fished her out of the river and took her with us. She was not a good canoe dog....she liked to lean from one side of the boat to the other. She spent the entire day with us. At the take-out, we put her in the back of my truck and took her back to the place upriver where we started and we first met her. I am sure the other dogs in the neighborhood won't believe her if she tells them about her adventure!

I've enjoyed looking through your blog and especially this little story about the dog and the river clean up.
Oh, I liked the Native American show too!
Thanks for visiting my Black & White blog.
